This mattress features one side that is extra firm for infants. When baby turns 1 years old and becomes a toddler, you should flip it over so they can enjoy the support and feel of the softer top. Studies show that this is healthier than a firm a mattress on their growing spines - which can cause back problems later in life. Organic Cotton Damask outer quilted to organic Wool surrounds this mattress. Zip off for emergency cleaning or to replace. We recommend placing a moisture pad and cotton pad on top to keep urine off the mattress. Can be used in Toddler Bed also. Size can have a variance of 1/2" in length or width.

The quality of this mattress is great. I like the fact that it is double sided and you can use the softer side when the baby is grows up :)
I was really concerned about harsh chemicals and toxic in regular mattresses and happy that I found this natural latex organic healthy choice. There is NO spring or wires which are great since with all those wireless and magnetic fields I don’t want my baby to sleep in a spring base mattress.

I researched organic crib mattresses for months before I finally decided on this one. First, I was going to just get one from a big retailer. Then, I realized it wasn't really organic and still had all the nasty chemical fire retardants I was trying to avoid. I had had a terrible reaction to mattress fire retardants once and I didn't want my son exposed to the same thing.
After I decided on a real organic mattress, I realized I'd want latex instead of coil (coil is heavier, but probably just as nice) since I have weak puppet-like arms that can't lift super heavy things. We already own the cosleeper mattress by Ecobaby, and our infant son loved it. So, I knew it was a great brand. Getting it and seeing the high quality was no surprise. No chemically smells, soft ticking and no plastic covering. To avoid getting the mattress wet, we use a wool puddle pad with a cotton mattress cover on top. Yes, the mattress costs more than traditional crib mattresses. But, it's pretty reasonable compared to other organic latex mattresses and it is so worth the extra cost to know that my baby won't be exposed to unnecessary chemicals. These mattresses use organic wool as a fire retardant. The extra firm infant side feels softer than traditional crib mattresses, but it's plenty firm in my opinion. The toddler side is softer. I can definitely foresee this mattress getting a long use from our boy.
